Hardware

The ZenFone 3 Max features unibody aluminum body which looks bold and sturdy. The design of the phone is almost same as ZenFone 3. The phone contoured (2.5D) glass touch screen is matched around the back by a gently curving rear cover that feels as natural to hold as your grip.

The Volume & Power buttons are placed on the right-hand side and it’s well built and very responsive.

Microphone, MicroUSB port, and speakers are on the bottom of the phone. The 3.5 mm audio jack is on the top of the phone.

The fingerprint sensor is on the back of the phone, just at the bottom of the camera. The fingerprint reader is fast and done the job most of the time.

The back of the phone features fingerprint reader and a main camera that slightly sticks out from the body. On the either side of the camera, you’ll find Dual LED flash and the laser Autofocus.

Asus ZenFone 3 Laser Review

The ZenFone 3 Laser comes with 5.5-inch Full HD Display with 77% screen-to-body ratio. The display is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone has a very thin bezel on either side of the display which looks really good. The color production of the display is really good and can be easily viewed even in direct sunlight.

The front camera & speaker sit right on top of the display while there is a capacitive button at the bottom. The capacitive buttons aren’t backlit just like all the ZenFone 3 series.

Software

Asus ZenFone 3 Laser is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow with ZenUI 3.0 on top. The software is very well optimized, during my entire testing, the phone runs pretty smoothly and had not faced any lag or drop in frames.

The ZenUI 3.0 has a decent level of customization to customize the skin according to your preference. The Skin will suit for both new to the average user.

The phone is full of bloatware apps just like all other ZenFone series. I don’t get the point of having so many pre-installed apps on the phone. Yes, you can remove the few of them but still most of there sitting inside the phone.

Performance

The ZenFone 3 Laser features 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Octa-core 430 processor and Adreno 505 GPU. The phone has 4GB of RAM to handle multitasking work. If we compare it with other phones, the processor doesn’t have that much power, but still, the software & hardware optimization is so well that you won’t face any lag on a day to day tasks.

Asus ZenFone 3 Laser Review

If I push the phone for heavy graphic games then lag is clearly visible. So If you’re looking for phones to play some high-performance game then you may be disappointed with the phone.

Camera

The ZenFone 3 Laser is equipped with 13MP PixelMaster 3.0 camera with f/2.0 aperture, 2nd-gen Ultra Fast focus, Dual LED flash and Real-time HDR.

Asus ZenFone 3 Laser Review

Main USP of the Asus ZenFone series is the camera and the phone camera shines really well. I managed to produce some very good shots in daylight conditions. The camera produce crisp color, fast autofocus, good sharpening and many modes in the camera app make it easy to shoot in different style.

The phone struggle to capture a good shot in low-light conditions, though it has low-light mode but the final image is very grainy. The camera app support following mode so that you can use single app to capture varieties of shot such as Manual, HDR Pro, Beautification, Super Resolution, Children, Low Light, QR code, Night, Depth of Field, Effect, Selfie, GIF Animation, Panorama, Miniature, Time Rewind, Smart Remove, All Smiles, Slow motion and Time Lapse.

asus-zenfone-3-laser-reviewAsus ZenFone 3 Laser has brilliant design, display and battery life. However in Camera, Performance & Software, the phone failed to impress me. Also the price of the device is high as compared to competitors.
